InstaForex MT4 for Forex-First Trading

Use MT4 for classic chart analysis, automated strategies, technical indicators and straightforward order management.

What InstaForex MT4 Offers

InstaForex MetaTrader 4 is the primary platform at this broker. Roughly 98% of InstaForex clients use MT4. That figure exists for a reason: several InstaForex-specific services – including PAMM accounts, ForexCopy copy trading, and bonuses – are only available through MT4, not MT5.

The platform runs on Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, and browser (WebTrader). All versions connect to the same InstaForex trading account. Data between the terminal and InstaForex servers is protected with 128-bit encryption.

Download and Installation

Windows

This is the primary supported desktop environment. Windows 7 or higher is required.

1. Go to the InstaForex MT4 download page or the InstaForex South Africa client dashboard.

2. Click Download MT4 for PC.

3. Open the downloaded `.exe` file.

4. Click Next in the setup wizard.

5. Wait 10-20 seconds for file installation.

6. Click Finish. MT4 launches automatically.

On first launch, MT4 scans for available InstaForex servers. A server list or login dialog appears. If no servers load, use File → Open an Account to trigger a manual server scan.

Mac

InstaForex offers a Mac build of MT4 through its EU platform. Download the Mac-specific installer from the InstaForex site. Move the application to the Applications folder. Launch it and follow the same login steps as on Windows.

Android and iOS

1. Open Google Play Store (Android) or App Store (iOS).

2. Search for MetaTrader 4 or InstaForex MT4.

3. Tap Install.

4. Open the app once installed.

5. Tap Settings → New Account → Login to an existing account.

6. Search for and select the InstaForex server listed in your account email.

7. Enter your login number and trading password.

8. Tap Sign In.

Huawei devices without Google Play: download the MT4 APK directly from the InstaForex site. Enable installation from unknown sources in device settings before installing.

No installation needed. Open a browser and go to the InstaForex WebTrader page. Log in with your InstaForex account credentials. This option works on any operating system.

Connecting Your InstaForex Account to MT4

If You Already Have an Account

Check the email InstaForex sent after registration. It contains three items:

  • Login (a numeric account ID)
  • Trading password (alphanumeric, including symbols)
  • Server name (for example, InstaForex-X or a similar designation)

In MT4 on desktop:

1. Click File → Login to Trade Account.

2. Enter your login number in the Login field.

3. Enter your trading password.

4. Select the correct InstaForex server from the dropdown.

5. Tick Save account information if preferred.

6. Click Login.

A successful connection shows live prices in the Market Watch panel. The bottom-right corner of the terminal displays green connection bars. Red bars or “No connection” means the wrong server was selected.

If You Need to Open an Account First

1. Go to the InstaForex website and click Open Account.

2. Enter personal details: name, date of birth, address, phone, email.

3. Select account type (Standard, Eurica, Cent, Islamic), leverage, and account currency (USD or EUR are common choices for South African clients).

4. Set a trading password.

5. Submit the form.

InstaForex emails the account number, password, and assigned server. Use those to log in via File → Login to Trade Account as described above. For live trading, complete KYC verification by uploading a South African ID document and proof of address.

Key Features: Charting, Indicators, and Expert Advisors

Charting Tools

MT4 provides 9 timeframes from M1 (1 minute) to MN1 (monthly). Right-click any chart and select Properties to adjust colors, bar styles, and grid display. Save configurations as templates for reuse across instruments.

The platform includes 31 graphical objects: trendlines, Fibonacci retracement tools, channels, geometric shapes, and text labels. These attach directly to the price chart and remain visible across timeframe switches.

Indicators

30+ built-in technical indicators are available under Insert → Indicators. These include Moving Averages, RSI, MACD, Bollinger Bands, Stochastic, and CCI, among others.

To install a custom indicator:

1. In MT4, click File → Open Data Folder.

2. Open the MQL4 folder, then the Indicators subfolder.

3. Copy your `.ex4` or `.mq4` file into that folder.

4. Close and reopen MT4.

5. Go to Insert → Indicators → Custom to find and attach it.

InstaForex also provides proprietary indicators such as IFX_QQE, built on a modified RSI calculation.

Expert Advisors

Expert Advisors (EAs) automate trading based on coded logic. InstaForex places no restrictions on EA use. To enable automated trading:

1. Go to Tools → Options → Expert Advisors.

2. Tick Allow automated trading.

3. Enable Allow DLL imports only if the EA requires it and you trust the source.

4. Click OK and restart MT4.

5. Drag the EA from Navigator → Expert Advisors onto a chart.

6. Configure input parameters in the dialog that appears.

7. Click OK to activate.

The EA runs as long as MT4 is open and connected. For uninterrupted EA operation, InstaForex offers VPS hosting – useful for South African traders with unstable local connections.

One-click trading is available from the toolbar or via a chart context menu. Trailing stops can be set on any open position through the right-click menu in the Trade tab.

Trading Instruments Available on MT4

InstaForex MT4 provides access to more than 300 instruments. The breakdown:

  • Forex: 110+ currency pairs including major, minor, and exotic pairs (e.g., USD/ZAR is accessible)
  • Commodities: 75+ including gold (XAUUSD), silver, crude oil, and agricultural products
  • Indices: major global equity indices as CFDs
  • Shares: CFDs on international equities
  • Crypto: Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other digital assets as CFDs
  • Energies: Brent and WTI crude, natural gas

All instruments are traded as CFDs on MT4. Swap charges apply to positions held overnight, except on Islamic (swap-free) accounts. Check the instrument specification in Market Watch by right-clicking a symbol and selecting Specification.

Deposits and withdrawals for South African clients are processed via bank transfer, credit/debit cards, e-wallets, and cryptocurrency. Local rand-denominated options may be available depending on current payment processor support.

MT4 vs MT5 at InstaForex

Feature MT4 MT5
Release year 2005 2010
Timeframes 9 21
Pending order types 4 6
Primary market focus Forex Multi-asset
PAMM accounts Yes No
ForexCopy copy trading Yes No
Bonuses Yes No
Client adoption at InstaForex ~98% ~2%
Automation language MQL4 MQL5
EA/indicator library size Larger (established ecosystem) Smaller (growing)

Choose MT4 if PAMM, ForexCopy, or InstaForex bonuses are part of the plan. Choose MT5 if additional timeframes or more pending order types matter more than those services. Migrating EAs from MQL4 to MQL5 requires rewriting, so existing automation is another reason to stay on MT4.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

No connection / red bars in the bottom-right corner

The server name is wrong or the internet connection dropped. Go to File → Login to Trade Account and recheck the server name against the InstaForex account email. Try switching between InstaForex server options if multiple appear.

Market Watch shows no prices

Right-click inside Market Watch and select Show All. Alternatively, right-click and select Symbols, then add instruments manually from the list.

EA is attached but not trading

Check Tools → Options → Expert Advisors. Confirm Allow automated trading is ticked. Also check the top toolbar – the AutoTrading button must show as active (green). Some EAs require specific input values before they generate signals.

Custom indicator not appearing after installation

Confirm the file was placed in the correct folder: MQL4/Indicators inside the MT4 data directory (File → Open Data Folder). A full MT4 restart is required after copying files – not just a chart refresh.

Login rejected on mobile

The server name must match exactly. On the mobile app, search for “InstaForex” in the server search field. Select the server that matches the one in the account email. Re-enter the login number and password carefully – passwords are case-sensitive.

Pending order not triggering

Confirm the price level is reachable. MT4 pending orders require a minimum distance from the current market price (broker-defined stop level). Check the instrument’s stop level in its specification.

FAQ

Can South African traders use InstaForex MT4 with a rand-denominated account?

InstaForex accounts are typically denominated in USD or EUR rather than ZAR. South African clients can deposit and withdraw using local payment methods, but the trading account itself operates in the selected base currency. Check current deposit options in the InstaForex client dashboard for rand-compatible processors.

What is the minimum deposit to start trading on InstaForex MT4 in South Africa?

InstaForex accepts deposits from as little as $1, which allows access to Cent accounts on MT4. Standard and Eurica accounts also have low entry points, though practical trading with meaningful position sizing typically requires a higher balance. The actual minimum may depend on the payment method selected.

Does InstaForex MT4 support automated trading with no restrictions?

InstaForex places no general restrictions on Expert Advisors or automated strategies on MT4. EAs must be enabled in Tools → Options → Expert Advisors and the AutoTrading button must be active. For continuous EA operation without keeping a local machine running, InstaForex offers VPS hosting as an add-on service.

Why do some InstaForex services not appear when using MT5?

PAMM accounts, ForexCopy copy trading, and certain bonus programmes are tied exclusively to MT4 at InstaForex. These services are not available through the MT5 terminal. Traders who rely on passive investing or copy trading should select MT4 when opening their account.

How do spreads compare between the Insta.Standard and Insta.Eurica accounts on MT4?

The Insta.Standard account uses fixed spreads, typically ranging from 3 to 7 pips on EURUSD, with no separate commission. The Insta.Eurica account runs at zero spread but charges a commission on each trade instead. The better option depends on trading style – fixed spreads suit news traders, while zero-spread accounts may suit scalpers who can calculate commission costs precisely.

Can InstaForex MT4 be used on a Huawei device without Google Play?

Yes. InstaForex provides an MT4 APK file for download directly from its website for Huawei and other Android devices without Google Play access. Installation requires enabling “unknown sources” in the device security settings before running the APK. The functionality after installation is the same as the Google Play version.

What should be checked if MT4 shows “Invalid account” during login?

An invalid account error usually means the server name does not match the one assigned to the account, or the login number or password was entered incorrectly. Retrieve the correct server name from the InstaForex registration email and re-enter all credentials exactly as provided. Passwords on MT4 are case-sensitive, so check for capitalisation errors.
